Student Employment Resources
This page contains resources for on-campus employment and career support.
We also have a page detailing employment rules for international students.
Please Note:
It is not a good plan to try and finance your educational stay at CSU with only on-campus employment.
- Outside of graduate student assistantships, it is impossible to cover all the costs of living expenses and studies with just on-campus employment, especially if someone has a dependent spouse and/or children.
- Take our estimated expenses seriously and take your personal situation into account, too.
- Living in the U.S. can be very expensive, especially housing, transport, and health care.
- ISSS cannot help you pay for your educational stay in the U.S.
For F-1 students especially:
- While we only require 9 months’ worth of funding for most F-1 student degree-seekers prior to issuing the initial I-20, you should still have a solid and robust financial plan for the remaining years of your degree, too.
- We’ve encountered many students recently who have a hard time when their original funding sources dry up, and there isn’t usually a quick or easy solution to their financial troubles.
If you willy rely on a graduate assistantship, scholarship, or loan, pay close attention to the terms of it. Make sure you understand:
- Is the graduate assistantship only for one year?
- Does the graduate assistantship have a GPA minimum?
- Will the assistantship fund you over the summer?
Graduate assistantships have applicable minimum stipend amounts that change periodically, listed in pre-tax figures on the Grad School’s webpage.
If you will rely on loans, find out:
- Will you have to pay interest while you are in school? If so, for how much and how often?
- Will you be able to afford those loan payments during school even without on-campus work?
Interstride
Interstride is a portal that helps students find jobs and internships, network with other international and globally-minded students, and find immigration and career support.
- This portal has a lot of support specifically for international students.
- Incoming international students can access Interstride when they have a CSU ID.
- You can discover jobs and internships by work authorization and visa type.
- There is also a place to access an employer’s historical record of H-1B sponsorship.
CSU Career Center
The CSU Career Center exists to help connect you with on campus employment as well as prepare you for your internship or practical training search. They work with many departments and offices around campus to provide a list of all possible openings for students looking to work on campus.
- Check out International Career Week events (usually early Feb and Sep). The Career Center collaborates with ISSS each Fall and Spring to host these events.
- Make an appointment and attend Career Center events to improve your resume, cover letter, interview skills, and more.
- Those searching for CPT / OPT employers should especially look at the Career Center’s list of companies that have hired CSU international students.
RamWeb
RamWeb lists multiple student job opportunities. Although international students aren’t eligible for need-based work study awards, there are many employment opportunities that do not require the student to have a work study award.
On RamWeb, select the “Financial Information” link, then “Student Job Listings.”
Conference Services
The Office of Conference Services and the University Visitors Center employ students for part-time work throughout the year. Students are employed to assist with accounting, registration, and visitor relations.
Numerous positions are available to assist in staffing the residence halls in the summer.
For employment information please contact the Office of Conference Services at (970) 491-6222.
Housing & Dining Services
Housing & Dining Services offer several employment opportunities, including “live-in” positions (the 20-hour on-campus employment limit still applies to ‘live-in’ compensation positions, meaning that you won’t be able to double-up with a “live-in” position and another on-campus job).
For more information please contact Housing & Dining Services:

- Housing Operations Management (maintenance, custodial, and material management): (970) 491-7171
