The Fall semester application opens in August the year prior to your intended start date. Deadlines vary by department, so be sure to check your specific program requirements.

International students: General application guidelines

Please note that application requirements vary by department. For a specific list of requirements, we recommend finding your program of interest on the Graduate School website and following the instructions on the program page.

Application Fee

Graduate applications require a $70 fee.

GRE/GMAT Scores

Some programs and departments require a GMAT/GRE. Please check with your program prior to submitting your application. The GRE department code can be found at www.ets.org. Send official electronic test scores using code 4075 to:

Bachelor’s Degree/Equivalency

Bachelor’s degree must be completed by the start of your graduate program.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from an institution that is recognized by a governmental national higher education authority (at the time the degree was earned).

Transcripts

Contact your department to find out if unofficial transcripts are accepted. If your department accepts unofficial transcripts, you may be admitted and registered in your first semester of courses with an unofficial transcript.

Use this document to highlight and address your professional and volunteer experiences.

Written Statement of Purpose

This is your chance to tell us who you are holistically, what your academic and professional interests are, and how you will add value to the graduate program and the respective discipline.

Letters of Recommendation

All applicants are required to provide contact information for recommenders. Some departments require two letters, and some require three letters. Please contact your department to verify the minimum number of required letters.

English Proficiency

CSU requires that proficiency in the English language be demonstrated either by the TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or and PTE Academic tests prior to admission.

— TOEFL minimum score: 550 (paper based), 80 (Internet based)
— IELTS (including the IELTS OneSkills Retake) minimum score: 6.5
— Duolingo minimum score: 120
— PTE minimum score: 58

Immigration Requirements

Not considered as part of the admissions process, but necessary in order to obtain an I-20 or DS 2019 after admission. Requirements include:

— Immigration Information Form (sent via email).
— Proof of funding/financial support equivalent to the estimated expenses for one full academic year.
— Passport ID page (must be valid for at least six months beyond the start of your program).
