Grant awards are first-come, first served until funding has been fully allocated. $150,000 in grant funding is available each fall and spring semester.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, grants will be awarded based on the Student Aid Index as calculated through the FAFSA.

  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  3. Be committed to the Semester at Sea Program via CSU Education Abroad
  4. Be admitted to and have a deposit on record with Semester at Sea program

Students who are not eligible for the CSU/SAS need-based grant will automatically be considered for the CSU/SAS Merit Scholarship (see below). Students who are receiving Pell Grant funding are also eligible for a Pell Match Grant from Semester at Sea. Additional scholarships opportunities are available directly through Semester at Sea as well as through the CSU Education Abroad Scholarship Common Application.

Note: Students cannot receive both the need-based grant and the merit scholarship. Gap Year students will not be eligible for this special CSU Semester at Sea grant and scholarship funding.
