Intensive English Program: Courses and schedule

The Intensive English Program at CSU is designed to provide comprehensive learning opportunities and outcomes for students to meet their English goals. Whether you are looking to enhance your language skills for work or academic purposes, our flexible program options, certificates, and support can help.

2025-2026 Term Schedule

  • Spring 2025
    • Term A: January 21 to March 12
    • Term B: March 24 to May 14
    • *New Spring 2025 Term B Students should plan to arrive for placement exams by 8:45 a.m. on Monday, March 24
  • Summer 2025
    • Term A: June 2 – July 23
    • *Note: We cannot accept new F1 students for the Summer term. New students must enroll in either Spring Term A or B in order to take classes in the summer term.
  • Fall 2025
    • Term A: August 25 to October 14
    • Term B: October 20 to December 17
  • Spring 2026

Literacy & Structure (6 hours/week)

3 levels: Focused on reading, writing, grammar for academic purposes. Class themes include: Digital literacy (Level 1), Information Literacy (Level 2), Technology Literacy (Level 3).

STEM and Language Integrated Skills (3 hours/week)

3 levels: Focused on all language skills, critical thinking, and problem solving. Class themes include: Agriculture (Level 1), Sustainability (Level 2), Engineering (Level 3).

Fluency & Comprehension (3 hours/week)

3 levels: Focused on listening, speaking, and pronunciation. Level 3 class includes some VR integration.

Business and Language Integrated Skills (3 hours/week)

3 levels: Focuses on all language skills and growth in the areas of leadership, adaptability, creativity, collaboration, and cultural competence. Class themes include: Business Basics (Level 1), Marketing (Level 2), International Business (Level 3)

Elective Options (3 hours/week)

Options include: Intercultural Exploration (Levels 1-2), Extensive Reading (Levels 2-3), Test Preparation (Level 3), Language in Practice (Levels 1-3).

Students who are looking for specialized certifications and digital badging, whether for work or academic purposes, are also encouraged to apply to our Intensive English Program. We are excited to roll out several English Certification specializations starting in the Fall 2024 term. English Certification options include:

English for Academic Purposes

Requirements: Literacy (Levels 1-2) plus Fluency (Levels 1-2).

Professional Communication

Requirements: Literacy Level 3, Fluency Level 3, plus Test Preparation elective course.

English for STEM

Requirements: Literacy Level 3 plus 2 additional STEM courses.

Intercultural Competence

Requirements: Fluency (Levels 2-3) plus Intercultural Exploration elective and Language in Practice elective courses.

Business English

Requirements: Literacy Level 2 plus 2 additional Business courses.

University Readiness

Requirements: Complete all courses at Level 3.

  • Three levels to complete (2 terms per level)
  • Institutional TOEFL offered for free at the end of each term (valid for CSU application only)
