Three Colorado State University undergraduate students have been selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which provides students with up to $5,000 to apply toward an education abroad experience during the 2015 spring semester. The Gilman Scholarship aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad, and the countries and regions where they go. This fall, 800 American students from 356 U.S. colleges and universities received the award.
- John Wendt, a rangeland ecology senior from Highlands Ranch, CO, will study geopolitics and the environment in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
- Senior international studies major Mercy Bonsu, from Henderson, CO, will study in Shanghai, China.
- Gabriel Brull, a junior business major with a concentration in accounting, will study economics in Bilbao, Spain. He is from Fort Collins.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is named for a former U.S. Congressman who retired in 2002 after serving in the House of Representatives for 30 years and chairing the House Foreign Relations Committee. Students receiving a Federal Pell Grant from two- and four-year institutions who will be studying abroad or participating in a career-oriented international internship for academic credit are eligible to apply. Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages, and economies – making them better prepared to assume leadership roles within government and the private sector. The program is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
CSU Education Abroad
CSU offers a wide variety of international opportunities to students, including for-credit and not-for-credit opportunities for study, research, internships and service learning. As part of the Office of International Programs, Education Abroad oversees programs in nearly every country around the world, and provides support services to students, including advising, orientations, outreach, program coordination and risk management oversight.
